CAMELFORD GALLERY
In the small gallery area John Blight, owner of Camelford Gallery, agreed to hold an exhibition of historic and local items and to host the
launch of Joanna Raymond-Barker’s booklet, written specially for the Charter Celebrations, Camelford’s Charter – 1259*. In it she explains that the Camelford Charter is a brief and factual document and puts it into its 13th century context, examining the significance of the terms ‘Charter’ and ‘Free Borough’ and the importance of markets and fairs in medieval Cornwall.
The small exhibition included mannequins in mediaeval dress supplied by Audrey Copus, together with one of her historic wall hangings. A copy of the Mappa Mundi was shown and an explanation of its orientation by Joanna Raymond-Barker, and a copy of the original 1259 charter, together with transcriptions of the Charter in English and Latin. There were also three framed prints of work done by Lynda Brain, a local artist, to illustrate some of the events being celebrated
