PROGRAMME OF EVENTS
Beating the Bounds
Sunday, 14 June 2009
At 2 pm on Sunday those wanting to Beat the Bounds, plus spectators, met at the entrance to Enfield Park.  There the ‘Charter’ was delivered to Town Cryer Rob Tremain, on horseback by Julie on Jo Old’s horse and accompanied by her son Liam on a small pony, both horses beautifully dressed for the occasion, as were Jo, Julie and Liam. Rob Tremain read the Charter in English and presented it to Mayor Lush.  Then the original Latin version was read by Mike Carne and, amid much cheering, the Cornish version, translated by Andrea Watson, was read by Brenda Carne.
Then the proceedings were handed over to Sid Goodman who had taken part in Beating the Bounds in 1994 and who had not only gone over the route*, but had negotiated with the owners whose land it crossed.  More than 60 people beat the bounds and were delighted when, at the first stone,
